love it!

this is my new thing...featuring a product that I LOVE!  I always like reading those sections in magazines where people list "things they wouldn't want to live without". here is my spin on that...I can live without 'em but love love love 'em...kiehls soymilk & honey body polish and body shop satsuma orange body butter.

grey colt invitations

ok. it's been "grey colt" day on the blog.  since it's the 50 year celebration, nate + I decided to help develop a really fun invitation that captures everything cool about the store and the 3 women that work there.  hence, all of the  paper layering and printed fabric swatches (all of which are iconic to the store and its history). AND each invite includes these quirky paper dolls of the women at the store dressed in some of their own vintage grey colt attire.  how much more fun can it get???  truly, the fun part was the back + forth on every little detail.  and the outcome is pretty darn cute!  thanks, nate for some wonderful portraits...

more grey colt

some of my grey colt favs!  love love love 'em ALL!

the grey colt

by far, my favorite store ANYWHERE is The Grey Colt .  it's very authentic. not at all contrived + just has an all around great vibe.  it is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.   visit their website to get a better feel for the store...better yet, visit the shop. these are all images I scanned from some of the clothing the store carried back in the 60's + 70's.  later I'll be posting some images of the abundance of things I've purchased there.  AND I'll be posting the invitation nate + I designed for the anniversary celebration.  the very best thing about the store?  well, the women that work there, of course!!!  if I'm not at home my kids know to find me there...

music

ahhhh...this is all the music I play in my studio. it helps me connect to "me" (ok. for those of you that know me you're thinking "how much MORE can she connect to herself??). fine. it helps me focus.  all of this music completely inspires me without being a distraction.  the 80's trashy techno + dance stuff I listen to just makes me go in search of shoulder pads. so...if you know me at all, you know that since 1988 chris spheeris has been one of my favorite musicians (thanks to lee zapis). "mystic traveller" is my "wouldn't- want-to-live-without" cd.  give these musicians a listen...but don't copy cd's...BUY them. please.

connections

I am always thinking about being connected with things and people and places.  that's really what most of this blog will be about.  I am so grateful for the connections I have with family + friends...they keep it real.

orange

one day I could not open a catalog, walk by a window or open a magazine with out being bombarded by orange...I'm thinking popsicles. (um, these images are available!)

picasso exhibit

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/17/arts/design/17pica.html
this exhibit was MAGNIFICENT (thanks to nate + jim for putting it on the list of must-sees).  so now you know where my recent color palette has been coming from...

peter

I think it's only appropriate that my first real posting be one of BIG THANKS to Peter...the soft spoken lovely young man that found my wallet on the sidewalk last weekend in new york city and did his best to safely return it to me.  He wouldn't even take a reward. I must have lost it on my last night in the city while getting out of a cab and didn't even realize it til the next morning.  The whole weekend was SO MUCH FUN ...  I will be sharing more of that later...thanks again, peter.

welcome

hi. I'm finally here. I've created this blog as a space + place for visual chatter.  I love being inspired by a great color palette or intriguing pattern.  sometimes my ideas originate from a window display, a yummy new recipe, an exhibit or a conversation (all of which I will share).  really...I'm going to TRY to keep the words to a minimum and let the visuals take over.  check back often...new work and ideas are on the way. and THANKS for visiting.
